JAAF Doctoral Symposium: July 8–9, 2027

The Journal of Accounting, Auditing, and Finance (JAAF) is pleased to announce the 2027 JAAF Conference, hosted by the Faculty of Economics and Business Administration at Sofia University “St. Kliment Ohridski” in Sofia, Bulgaria, on July 9–12, 2027. Marking the tenth edition of the Conference, the event continues a decade of international scholarly exchange in accounting, auditing, finance, and related fields. It brings together academics, doctoral researchers, practitioners, and journal editors to present original research, receive constructive feedback, engage in academic debate, build international networks, and experience the cultural and historical heritage of Sofia and Bulgaria.
The JAAF Doctoral Symposium will begin on July 8 and conclude before the opening of the main Conference on July 9, 2027. It will enable PhD students to present research in progress, receive developmental feedback from internationally recognized scholars and fellow doctoral researchers, and participate in small-group and professional-development sessions on academic publishing, peer review, research communication, methodological challenges, and early academic careers.
Both the JAAF Doctoral Symposium and the main Conference will be held in person.
2027 JAAF Conference Plenary Session Submissions
Papers accepted for the Plenary Sessions will be considered for publication in JAAF under the Journal’s established editorial and peer-review policies. Professors C. S. Agnes Cheng and Linda Myers will serve as Editors for the 2027 Plenary Session submissions, with final publication decisions made in consultation with the JAAF Editor-in-Chief.
Conference-related expenses of up to USD 1,500 will be reimbursed for one author of each accepted Plenary Session paper. Presenters must register for the Conference and pay the applicable fee of USD 450, or USD 500 after the early-bird discount period.
Plenary manuscripts must be submitted through the JAAF online submission system: https://mc.manuscriptcentral.com/jaaf . The regular JAAF submission fee of USD 200 applies. The cover letter must identify the manuscript as a submission for the 2027 JAAF Conference Plenary Sessions. A copy of the submitted manuscript must also be emailed to the JAAF Conference Associate Editor, Dr. Chia-Hsiang (Mike) Weng, at jaaf.conference@gmail.com. Authors should indicate whether the paper may be considered for a Concurrent Session if it is not selected for a Plenary Session.
2027 JAAF Conference Concurrent Session Submissions
Papers submitted directly to the Concurrent Sessions, together with Plenary Session submissions not selected for the plenary program, will be reviewed by the Conference Scientific Committee, co-chaired by Dr. Stanley Gyoshev, Dr. Eleonora Stancheva-Todorova, and Dr. Cheng (Colin) Zeng. Best Paper Awards will recognize both regular conference papers and PhD student papers; authors seeking consideration for the PhD Student Paper Award must indicate this at submission. The PhD Student Paper Award applies to full papers accepted for presentation at the main Conference and is separate from participation in the Doctoral Symposium. A special JAAF 10th Anniversary Distinguished Paper Award will also be presented in Sofia. Eligibility criteria and selection procedures will be announced on the Conference website.
Manuscripts intended exclusively for the Concurrent Sessions should be emailed to jaaf2027Sofia@feb.uni-sofia.bg, together with evidence of payment of the USD 50 JAAF submission fee [Click here to pay]. Authors of accepted papers must register for the Conference; the fee is USD 450 during the early-bird period and USD 500 thereafter. Papers not selected for the Plenary Sessions, as well as papers submitted directly to the Concurrent Sessions, remain eligible for later submission to JAAF as regular new manuscripts.
2027 JAAF Conference Submission Requirements
Only full papers representing complete scholarly research projects will be considered for the Plenary and Concurrent Sessions; research proposals and abstracts will not be accepted. Each submission must comprise two files: (1) a title page with the paper title, author names, affiliations, keywords, contact details, and acknowledgments, where applicable; and (2) an anonymized manuscript containing the abstract and full text without author-identifying information. Submissions and presentations must be in English, and manuscripts should be sufficiently developed to be suitable for circulation as public working papers, including through repositories such as SSRN.
Submissions for the JAAF Doctoral Symposium
Applicants should submit the following three items: (1) an extended abstract of up to three pages, outlining the research question, theoretical background, methodology, expected or preliminary findings, and intended contribution; (2) a short academic CV; and (3) a brief endorsement from the doctoral supervisor confirming the applicant’s PhD status and the stage of development of the research.
Priority will be given to applicants whose work has progressed beyond the initial proposal stage and who are actively developing a doctoral paper or dissertation study. Applications will be assessed by the Doctoral Symposium Committee based on research quality, development potential, relevance to the fields covered by JAAF, and available capacity.
Applications for the Doctoral Symposium should be emailed to phdsymposium2027Sofia@feb.uni-sofia.bg by February 27, 2027. The Doctoral Symposium participation fee is USD 95. Authors of the three highest-ranked doctoral research submissions selected for the Symposium will receive full waivers of the Doctoral Symposium participation fee. Doctoral Symposium participants who register for the main Conference will pay a reduced Conference registration fee of USD…. [TO BE CONFIRMED by JAAF] instead of the standard registration fee. Further application and participation details will be published on the Conference website. Participation in the Doctoral Symposium does not preclude applicants from submitting a full paper separately for consideration in the Plenary or Concurrent Sessions of the main Conference.
