JAAF Doctoral/New Faculty Symposium
July 8–9, 2027 | Sofia, Bulgaria Hosted by the Faculty of Economics and Business Administration, Sofia University “St. Kliment Ohridski”
The JAAF Doctoral/New Faculty Symposium brings together PhD students and early-career academics to present research in progress, receive constructive feedback, and develop their research and academic skills in a supportive international environment.
The Symposium will begin on July 8 and conclude before the opening of the 2027 JAAF Annual Conference on July 9. It will be held in person.
Participants will have the opportunity to discuss their work with internationally recognized scholars and fellow doctoral researchers. The program will also include small-group discussions and professional-development sessions covering academic publishing, peer review, research communication, methodological challenges, and early academic careers.

Who Can Apply?
Applications are welcome from PhD students and new faculty within three years of graduation working in accounting, auditing, finance, and related fields covered by JAAF.
Priority will be given to PhD students, particularly those whose research has progressed beyond the initial proposal stage and who are actively developing a paper or dissertation.
How to Apply
Applicants should submit:
1. An extended abstract of up to three pages, outlining the research question, theoretical background, methodology, expected or preliminary findings, and intended contribution.
2. A short academic CV.
3. For PhD students only: a brief endorsement from their doctoral supervisor confirming their PhD status and the research project’s stage of development. Please email your complete application to phdsymposium2027Sofia@feb.uni-sofia.bg by February 27, 2027.
Applications will be assessed by the Doctoral/New Faculty Symposium Scientific Committee based on research quality, development potential, and relevance to the fields covered by JAAF. Acceptance is subject to available capacity.

Fees & Conference Participation
Participation Fees and Fee Waivers
The Symposium participation fee is USD 95.
Full waivers of the Symposium participation fee will be granted to all applicants who submit their complete application by December 15, 2026, and are subsequently selected to participate. In addition, authors of the three highest-ranked doctoral research submissions selected for the Symposium will receive full fee waivers, regardless of their submission date, provided they apply by the final application deadline. These waivers cover the Symposium participation fee only and do not include registration for the main JAAF Annual Conference.
Symposium participants who also register for the main JAAF Annual Conference, taking place on July 9–12, 2027, will be eligible for a reduced main conference registration fee of USD 390.
Participation in the Main Conference
Applicants may also submit the same research in full paper format for separate consideration in the Plenary or Concurrent Sessions of the main conference. Participation in the Symposium does not replace the main conference’s submission and review process.
The main conference’s PhD Student Paper Award applies only to papers accepted for presentation at the main conference and does not apply to papers presented in the Symposium.
Symposium Proceedings (подрубрика)
Participants may optionally submit a full manuscript for publication in the proceedings of the JAAF Doctoral/New Faculty Symposium, to be published by „St. Kliment Ohridski“ University Press. Submission of a full manuscript is not a requirement for participation in the Symposium. Further details on manuscript preparation, submission deadlines, and the publication process will be provided to accepted participants.
